Donor insemination is the injection of sperm from a man other than the patient’s partner to achieve pregnancy. It has been used longer than any other artificial reproductive technique for treating male infertility. Donor sperm is provided after carefully matching background and physical characteristics.

Indications for Donor Insemination

• Male factor infertility
• Couples where one or both partners carry a heritable disease
• Couples serodiscordant for sexually transmitted viral infections
• Failed Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedures
• Absence of a male partner

Insemination Options

• Intracervical insemination (ICI): Semen is placed inside the cervical opening covering the cervix.
• Intrauterine insemination (IUI): Semen is inserted through the cervix and directly into the uterine cavity.
